Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar // Night Markets, Star Courts and Desi goodness

GOODREADS // AMAZON // BOOK DEPOSITORY The daughter of a star and a mortal, Sheetal is used to keeping secrets. Pretending to be "normal." But when an accidental flare of her starfire puts her human father in the hospital, Sheetal needs a full star's help to heal him. A star like her mother, who returned to the sky long ago. Sheetal's quest to save her father will take her to a celestial court of shining wonders and dark shadows, where she must take the stage as her family's champion in a competition to decide the next ruling house of the heavens--and win, or risk never returning to Earth at all. This gorgeously imagined YA debut blends shades of Neil Gaiman's Stardust and a breathtaking landscape of Hindu mythology into a radiant contemporary fantasy.   ( A huge thank you to the  HOV Tours  and HarperTeen for the eARC and the opportunity to be a part of this blog tour.  ~When a book sees you~      Yes I am absolutely going to s

A Blog Squad Special - Tag!

We are a group of three bloggers from different continents who have been bringing you “The Blog Squad’ - a series of discussion posts about book blogging! We have always enjoyed reading your comments and views at these posts and this time around, we have a special post in which you could participate too! We present to you ‘THE BLOG SQUAD TAG’ where we answer five questions about having a bookish blog and hope you would join us too!

Is there a particular blogger who inspires you?Uma says....png

There are SOOOO many bloggers who are freaking awesome and inspire me whenever I visit their blog! I’m just gonna name two of them here - Cait @Paper Fury and Lindsey @Lindsey Reads.

Cait writes the most hilarious but informative blog posts and is so epicly sweet (She keeps saying she’s an evil queen but don’t be fooled :P ). She also replies to the hundreds of comments on her blog and ALSO takes the time to go visit everyone’s blogs and sprinkle some love and humor in their comment boxes. If you don’t already read her blog (Are you living under a rock??), please do because she’s funny, awesome and inspiring,

Lindsey has the neatest blog ever and is also epicly sweet! She writes wonderful spoiler-free reviews and has really amazing discussion posts. She replies to every comment on her blog and visits everyone’s blogs. I love how when she stops by, she always leaves thoughtful comments! It’s wonderful having conversations with Lindsey so go visit her blog and show her some love!

Also shoutouts to my Blog Squad buddies Amy and Di for being the most fun, helpful and amazing friends I’ve made through the blogosphere. Looking forward to more of our epic group conversations and bookish talk!

Although I’ve mentioned just some bloggers here, there are so many more who inspire me through their blogs and by being who they are. Just want to say that this bookish community is absolutely beautiful and inspiring

What is your blog’s niche?Uma says....png

Okay so I checked all my reviews and found 98% of them to be YA fantasy! I guess that’s my niche :) I also do bookish discussion posts and writing posts every now and then. Hoping to do more of both now that my holidays have begun!!

What is your top bookish confession?Uma says....png

I read waaaay too many books at a time! I definitely need to reduce that. I’m currently reading 5 books and switching between the books makes me totally forget reality! Also, sometimes when a book is boring and I’m only reading to know the end, I just go and read the last page. *gasp* I know!!

What are your top 3 bookish pet peeves?Uma says....png

International Shipping Fee - Even Book Depository doesn’t ship to India for free. They have ‘worldwide’ shipping but somehow countries like India and Russia are not a part of the world :/ I get really annoyed about that. Also I’d love to buy all the bookish merch but the merch costs $10 and the shipping is $25 *bangs my head on the wall*

Stickers on Books - THIS IS BLASPHEMY! Like why would you put anything sticky on books?? The stickiness never comes off completely and with the sticker on, the book looks ugly :/

When covers change magically - Well not magically but I’m so peeved that publishers think it’s perfectly okay to change the cover design, size and everything smack in the middle of a series! I like my books to match so they’re aesthetically pleasing to my eyes!! Also, Bookstagram! I need my editions to look all proud and gorgeous on bookstagram and not like mismatched potatoes!

Name 3 books you would recommend to anyoneUma says....png

Okay so I can think of a hundred books you MUST read but since I'm feeling kinda nostalgic today, I'm gonna name the three series that got me into middle-grade/ YA fantasy! Also all these books have something for everyone...

1. PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS

Everyone needs this series in their lives. Sassy, snarky demigods, sassier Gods (read Mr.D) and LOADS of humor!! Uncle Rick sure knows how to make people laugh! Hell, even the chapter names are so freaking funny!

2. VAMPIRE ACADEMY

If you're looking for a vampire series like twilight, this is NOT it! Vampire Academy was the first vampire series I read and LOVED! This series has a snarky heroine who punches people in the face, swoon worthy male characters and amazing female friendships! I remember devouring the entire series in a matter of 8 or 9 days.

3. HARRY POTTER

I will recommend Harry Potter to every single soul in all the worlds forever and always. In our fandom, always is bigger than forever. This series pretty much shaped me both as a reader and a person. And honestly, if you haven't read the series so far, HAVE YOU BEEN LOST ON MARS OR SOMETHING?

Head over to read Di and Amy's answers!
